Picture an Hour: June 19, 2012

Trail Mix and Fruit
7:47 AM
Some healthy snacks for the train. I should have brought at least twice this much.

Luggage and Taylor Guitar
8:36 AM
All packed and ready to go. It's a lot of stuff, but a lot of it was for Angie.

La Crosse WI Amtrak Station
9:35 AM
I got to the train station almost an hour early, only to discover that the train would be at least two hours late.

La Crosse WI Amtrak Station
10:36 AM
Sittin' and waitin'. I was so glad I'd brought a book and had plenty of music.

La Crosse WI Amtrak Station
11:03 AM
Empty track. Freight trains kept coming by with regular frequency, though.

La Crosse WI Amtrak Station
12:43 PM
Still waiting. At least it was a lovely, air conditioned, light filled place to wait.

La Crosse WI Amtrak Station
1:27 PM
Finally! It ended up being more like three hours late.

Telegraph Pole
2:06 PM
Defunct telegraph lines along the track near Fort McCoy.

Freight Train
3:55 PM
A passing freight train. It was so disconcerting when other trains would pass, especially since my seat was facing backwards on this leg of the trip.

Jack Johnson iPad
4:26 PM
Best album in the world to nap to.

P6191267
5:48 PM
Stepped off the train to stretch my legs in Milwaukee.

Outskirts of Chicago
7:09 PM
Woke up from napping to find we were on the outskirts of Chicago.

P6191271-001
7:19 PM
Downtown Chicago in the golden hour.

P6191272
8:26 PM
The good thing about the first train being so late was that I had less of a layover at Union Station. It was so hot and crowded at my gate.

P6191274
9:16 PM
The Lakeshore Limited was right on time, and I settled in with Rocky.

P6191275
10:57 PM
Got a little antsy and had a little Hopper moment in the empty dining car.

I didn't arrive in New York until 7:30 the next day. I spent most of that day on the train reading, napping, listening to music and taking some video footage out of the window. It really wasn't too bad a day.
